Ashrama At a Glance

Shree Ramakrishna Ashrama, M.Rampur, Kalahandi was started by Swami Vairagyananda & some dedicated Monks of Ramakrishna order on 11 September 1993, the Centenary day of Swami Vivekananda’s Speech in the World parliament of Religion at Chicago . It has been registered under Society Registration Act. XXI of 1860 and register under IGR, Cuttack vides Regd. No. 22998/06 of 2009-10 dated-30.04.2009.

As per ideals of Sri Ramakrishna Dev and Swami Vivekananda that “Service to Man is Service to God”, Ashrama is rendering services for the re-generation of the backward people of Kalahandi since its inception. The Ashrama has undertaken the following programmes.

Tribal Hostel for 200 Boys

Started during 1993-94 with 50 students and now the strength is 200. Free lodging, boarding and coaching facilities to all the beneficiaries of the Hostel are being provided by the organization. Apart from this, they are provided with study materials, uniform, medicine, health check-up, etc. free of cost. Free special coaching is being provided to improve their standard by trained teachers.

Innovative School

The innovative school is functioning with 100 students from class-I to VIII since 1999-2000. The students are availing elementary education with special knowledge on different vocational training at grass root level in order to be self sufficient & earn livelihood in later on. They are provided free boarding, lodging, study materials, medicines, etc. In addition to special coaching & teaching by qualified teachers appointed by the Ashrama.

Residential Training Centre on Agriculture & Allied Subject

The Agriculture Training Centre was functioning from 2003-04 to train 100 numbers of rural cultivators and youth within the age group of 15 to 35 round the year by which 700 youth farmers were benefited every year. The trainees were provided knowledge on Agronomy, Horticulture, Floriculture, Sericulture, Pisciculture, Dairy, Poultry, Bee-Keeping, Welding, Farm machinery workshop, Vermin Technology, Tailoring, Computer education, Driving Training, etc. They were provided all basic necessaries as elaborated in above with Rs. 500/- pocket money besides fare to and fro their home.

Senior Citizens’ Home

Senior Citizens’ Home was started in the year 1996. 25 older persons are staying in the Home. Free boarding, lodging, clothes, and health check-up are provided to the inmates. A part-time Doctor has been appointed for routine check-up to their health, besides there are 2 dispensaries functioning inside the premises viz. Allopathy, Homoeopathy for treatment of the senior citizens.

Mobile Allopathy Health Unit

The Allopathy Medical Unit has been functioning since 1993-94 and serving needy patients at their doorstep with free supply of medicines, free check-up and advice by qualified doctor and medical staffs. Approximately 20,000 patients of different villages are benefited every year out of it.

Homoeopathy Unit

Homoeopathy Medical Unit functioning since 1993-94 and serving needy patients with free supply of medicines, free check-up and consultation by qualified doctor and medical staffs. Approximately 16,000 patients of different categories are benefited every year out of it.

Library

A public Library is functioning from 1993-94 with free reading room. Now 11,642 books of different titles are available in the library. The daily news paper together with some periodical, journals, etc. are provided for use of the readers of the locality.

Drug De-Addiction Programme

There is a centre functioning under de-addiction programme for detoxification of addicts with awareness programme and counselling rehabilitation from the year 1995.

English Medium School (CBSE)

From 2010, an English Medium School is functioning with 400 local students from Nursery to Standard IX. The qualified and meritorious teachers are appointed for good academic result of the students

Publication

Monthly Agriculture Magazine & Books on Ramakrishna Vivekananda Vedanta philosophy was being published regularly.

150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda & Bharat Parikrama

During 150th Birth Anniversary, Ashrama had undertaken various welfare activities including famous Bharat Parikrama Programme. The Parikrama completed covering 100 important places of India with 14 feet statue of Swamijee to inspire the youth of our countries by distributing messages of Swamijee in 9 languages and organizing meeting & youth rallies. The aim was to infuse the universal message of Swamijee in the mind of Indian youth for unity, Integrity of our Motherland, Universal Brotherhood and harmony of faith. The Parikrama started on 1st February 2012 with 60 participants, 6 vehicles & ended on 14.05.2012.

Visit of Hon’ble President of India

Hon’ble President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the Vivekananda Memorial Building sponsored by the Ministry of Culture on 30 November 2014. The local people were inspired by his visit.

Relief Works

During natural calamities, relief programmes were organized by distributing clothes, medicines and food grains, etc. among the suffering villagers of Kalahandi since inception of the Ashrama.

Research and PHD on Ashram Activities

Dr. Kalyan Ghadei of Banaras Hindu University had undertaken his research study on Ashrama activities and got Doctor of Philosophy Degree in the year 2006-07.

Monitoring and supervision

All above activities was being monitored by a dedicated group of Monks and Volunteer guided by the founder & secretary, Swami Vairagyananda. He was previously working as responsible Monk of Ramakrishna order. He had gained vast experience in various field of social work organized in different parts of India. He sacrificed his life for the welfare of human being irrespective of caste, creed & religion. Swami Vairagyananda was again was successes by another senior monk of Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Belur math to carry out the welfare activities of the Ashrama during the current year.

Ashram Sub Centres

(I) SARADA PALLI VIKASH PRAKALPA

Sarada Palli Vikash Prakalpa a women and empowerment project started in 2011 with the grant from Govt. of India through Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math during the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda at Dandamakundpur, Puri.

In 2015, the project came under the management of Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, M.Rampur with the grant from Ministry of Textile (Handicrafts). The centre organized two Skill Development Programmes, two Design Workshops, Exhibition, printed catalogue on appliqué craft. More than 200 artisans formed SHG under Shree Ramakrishna Ashrama and get benefit financially from the project till 2019. Everyone was issued Artisans card from Govt. of India and many received loan under Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana to carry out their own self sustainable business from home in the Handicraft sector by earning income to maintain their family.

(II) RAMAKRISHNA VIVEKANANDA VEDANTA ASHRAMA, SARAGLANJI

This Ashrama is functioning under Shree Ramakrishna Ashrama, M.Rampur since 2016-17 with an objective to serve the older person and poor students of the area. The building construction work is going on to establish Tribal Hostel and Home for Senior Citizens with health services.
